Agrivoltaics with Solar Developers and Farmers

The SCAPES team has been exploring the interests and concerns related to agrivoltaics, a technology which can provide dual revenue streams for landowners and operators. Concerns include the lifespan of solar panels, decommissioning, and their impact on future farmland productivity.

The SCAPES team is studying the potential of agrivoltaics, and by engaging with stakeholders, we discuss factors affecting decision-making and exploring different contracting arrangements and incentives. A meeting among farmers and researchers discusses the feasibility and potential benefits of agrivoltaics, but also raises concerns about implementation logistics and impact on soil quality.

More research, demonstrations, and success stories are needed to inform decisions about adopting agrivoltaics.
